I probably won't be making tons and tons of posts due to being busy alot but i will definitely try to update the blogs every now and then. The new posts will definitely only be about new bands that I find(well bands that are new to me). So I encourage you to keep looking just don't expect posts to be daily or maybe even weekly. The most common mistake people make when listening to music is overplaying a song. You end up liking the song so much that you constantly listen to it. After a while the effect that the song originally had on you starts to wear off and you grow tired of it. This is precisely why I stopped listening to the 94.7 radio station. It plays the same songs every five minutes and you never hear anything. So if you want to like a song for a while, rather then listening to it every second, give it a rest before it sounds like a broken record. Also what I find is always good is when you go back to old songs that you used to listen to. The world of music is everchanging, and always evolving. Usually I find that if I go back to an old song that I haven't heard in a while, it's like listening to it for the first time all over again. What you could also do instead of listening to the same songs over again, is listen to other songs by the same artist. Just because they don't put the songs on the radio doesn't mean that they're not good; besides they don't even put good music on the radio any more anyways so you're better off just not listening to it at all(although i do love 99.9 the buzz and 97.7). I also suggest finding a lot of bands in the same genre because you might end up liking them. There are also a lot of underground bands that you could listen to that have that fresh new sound. So what it comes down to is listen to tons of different bands, kinds of music, and different songs, and don't overplay songs and you can make the music last.

Asher Roth: A New Voice in Hip Hop

Asher Roth is a new hip hop artists rocking out for college kids everywhere with his new popular song I Love College. However there's a lot more to his new released, debut album that came out on April 20th. Asher Roth, much like Eminem, is one of the few caucasian rappers "in the game," so to speak. In Asher Roth's song As I Em, he raps about how he is sick of being compared to Eminem and about how he is trying to make a name for himself. One of my favorite songs by Ash Roth is Falling. It explains how he get into the rap game and it just kind of goes through his life, and tells of how he started his love for hip hop. The beat to it is pretty calm and chill too so I like it. Asher Roth also has a song called Lark on my Go-Kart which is pretty sweet. It's one of his more funnier and joking around songs. Overall I think Asher Roth is really good at what he does and what's best about him is that he's not tryin to be someone else. Instead of doing the whole "thug rap" kind of thing, he's just doin his own thing; which is why i think people will like him, however this is why alot of people will not think much of him. But being an individual is important when making your own music so props to Asher Roth. So in turn, what i'm really trying to say, is check this guy out.

Silverstein's new album A Shipwreck in the Sand is no wreck at all

The new album was released into stores on march 31st. I've listened to just about every song on that cd and they are all good. A few of my personal favorites are The End, American Dream, and A Shipwreck in the Sand. Two of those songs have my favorite lines in them(The End and A
Shipwreck in the Sand. The lines are right at the end and these are it:

This union a battle fought and lost
This union was not about the cause
This union was never about love

Pretty much, those are some of the craziest and best lines i've heard in a while. This could be some of Silverstein's best work yet. I mean it may not be as good as their Disovering the Waterfront album but it is definitely pretty darn close. It's also kind of neat because the cd and the tracks are written as if it were a book. And what i mean by that is the that the cd consists of four chapters and in each of these chapters there are 3-4 tracks. Also throughout the songs, they play a piece of the "book" or "story" in each one, instead of singing the whole thing. If you want to see more of what i mean you should check out the songs and check out this website: http://www.ashipwreckinthesand.com/

Here is one of the songs from their new album-Song Name: A Shipwreck in the sand:

A Change of Pace

A Change of Pace is a band I found out about by messing around on myspace. I had discovered a song a while ago by them called Shoot from the Hip. Currently, after re-listening to the song, I decided to investigate this band a little more. I listened to a few more of their songs like Take Care and Safe and Sound in Phone Lines and became an avid listener of this band. This band is considered to be rock and alternative and also pop punk rock. However I personally don't think they have the same sound as most of the pop punk bands but I guess that's just a personal oppinion. The singer, I think has pretty good vocals. I beleive that this acoustic performance of Take Care proves it(you have to fast foward a little bit because they talk about their album and what not in the first minute or so):

www.unsignedbandweb.com : The Best Website to Find New Bands

Alright, as usual I was browsing the web to find some new bands, and not only did I find a new band, but I also found a new website. This website is unbeleivable to me. You can search for new bands by searching through genres. You can also either download the songs, or just play them on the website; however you do need windows media player if you are going to play the song from the computer. Well not a problem. Make your own song just by going to a certain website known as www.jamstudio.com. This websites allows you to use different tempos and different types of guitars, drums, bass, and more to make your own music. Given it does have some limitations but for the most part, it is pretty fun and amusing. I've messed around on it and found that not only is it a little bit addicting but it also can sound pretty cool when you make a song. So go ahead and give it a shot, try and be your own band.

link: http://www.jamstudio.com/Studio/index.htm

Hit the Lights and crank the music

Hit the Lights is considered to be a Pop/Punk band. If you liked the performance from Hello Control at the CCS Winterball then I'm sure you will love the sound of this band. They also have a similar sound to Taking Back Sunday and All Time Low. Their lyrics are very catchy but not annoying, unlike most poppy kind of bands or pop music in general. What I've noticed so far about them is that their songs are alot about relationships and things like that. One song that i really like is Speakers Blown. The song is catchy but also has a pretty good story behind it. Another good song is Body Bag. I also kind of like the music video to it. Here's the link to it, I urge you to check it out.
A song from their most current album, Skip School, Start fights, that I like is Drop the Girl. So anyways if you like Hello Control and bands like that then listen to Hit the Lights and I'm sure you'll love them.

Artists Who are too Talented for One Band

Maynard James Keenan? Sound familiar? Maybe, or maybe not. Maybe you know him from the relatively popular band Tool. Or maybe you're into the bands that aren't known by every person on the planet and have heard him from his secondary band A Perfect Circle. I am personally just astonished by the fact that he is in more than one band. Both bands have a similar sound but have their own style at the same time. One of my favorite songs by Tool is Vicarious and my favorite song by A Perfect Circle is Choke. A Perfect Circle also does a cover song of Imangine and it is pretty sick nasty.

I'm sure everyone is also familiar with Travis Barker, who was the drummer of the popular band Blink 182. Well Barker and Mark Hoppus(bassist/singer from Blink 182) reunited to form a new band known as +44. The band sounds got that raw sound like Blink 182 while making a sound all of their own. I urge you to check out these two unknown bands with very familiar artists. It's guarenteed that you'll like them as much as the artists popular bands.

Singers Who are too

Shinedown: A Band that Should not be Unheard of

If you ask most people I'm sure that they have heard of Shinedown, but how many songs have they actually heard by the band? I'm sure most people have only heard they're hit song, Burning Bright, that was on 94.7 all the time, but they have many other good songs. An inspirational yet i have to admit, slightly depresssing song that they sing is called My Second Chance. Second Chance is a song that i've only heard recently but now consistently. Some other songs are 45, all ever wanted, better version, and many more. Stranger inside was one of my favorite songs by Shinedown on their album, Leave a Whisper.I urge people to check out more songs by this band. Shinedown is kind of like Crossfade and Cold. I'd even relate their sound to something like Breaking Benjamin. So please check out some songs and tell me what you think, or at least check out Second Chance.

Beatboxers of the Century

This video is kind of old but I figured I'd put it up anyways for a few reasons. One is that even though it's old some people might not have heard it still. Another reason is that I still think it's pretty sick that this guy can beatbox and play flute at the same time. His super mario remix I think should be put on any new super mario games that come out, that's how sick this guy is. He also does a remix of the Inspector Gadget theme song and the Flight of the Bumblebee. I think it is pretty crazy that the guy can do this. Also if you like this video then you are guarenteed to love the other beatboxer, Rahzel. Rhazel beatboxes and sings, rather than playing an instrument and beat boxing. Both these two very gifted beatboxers have many videos on youtube that I urge you to check out. I've been told by my brother of why he thinks Rhazel is able to beatbox and sing at the same time, and I agree with my brother's theory. My brother said you have two sets of vocal chord, one high and one low, which makes sense. My brother said some people can train themselves to use both their sets of vocal chords seperately and can train themselves how to use them very well. So by using these two sets of vocal chords seperately, Rhazel is allowed to sing and beatbox at the same time. I can't post the Rhazel video up because he says one bad word but i still urge you to check out the song "if your mother only knew" by Rhazel; however i can post the greg patillo video of him beatboxing and playing the flute at the same time:

Websites for the Underground

Too many times have I sat at home looking for some new tunes, and end up disappointed time after time. Myspace is helpful sometimes but they just have alot of stuff that I've already heard that doesn't sound new to me. I'm always looking for a newer and realer sound. The website, www.pandora.com is ok but you can't really look for new bands on your own. Purevolume is also a good website but it took me a while to figure out how to search for people in certain genres rather than just searching for an actual artist. So after searching for a while I've found a new website. This website is perfect for finding underground sounds and the unsigned who should be signed. The website is, http://www.unsigned.com/. I guarentee if you look at this website, you will not leave without finding a band that you like, given that you actually search for a little while and not just for .2 seconds. So I encourage you to check out this new website and spread around a new artist in support to get the unheard, heard.

The Dreaming:Awake and Rockin'

The Dreaming is a Punk band, some consider them alternative and indie, that will rock your wildest dreams. Don't be tricked by their name though, they are a very lively and awake band. They're lyrics, vocals, sick guitarist, and a narly drummer make up one good sound that sounds like something you could only dream up. Now you may think I'm just talking these guys up but they are pretty narly. You'll like them if you like bands like Finger Eleven and Three Days Grace. If you've ever heard the band Aiden, they have a similar sound to them. From what I've listened to, their lyrics aren't too graphic but there are a few inappropriate words for kids of a certain age. But if you like underground type music, i think you would appreciate this band. So find a bed, sleep tight, and let The Dreaming guide you on the way to some rockin' dreams.

Website on myspace: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=779539

Cold War Kids: An Unknown Sound

While messing around on myspace, I decided to search for some new bands. I was relatively successful. One band I found was called Cold War Kids. Myspace put them in the genres of punk, soul, and other. Now I would definitely agree with myspace on the genre other. I mean this is like nothing I've ever heard before. I honestly have no one who they sound like. The singer in some songs reminds me of the singer from Queens. Also I think if you like My Chemical Romance then you would like this band. But I mean i don't even like My Chemical Romance and I still like this band. The song I urge you to listen to is Hospital Beds. However, another song that I like is Relief. In the song Relief, the singer's voice slightly reminds me of Gnarles Barkley, but only a little bit. Sure, the poppy songs that make you want to dance are always nice, but I have no idea what i would do without the songs that are more real, deeper, and meaningful. These are the types of songs I blast my system to when I've had a rough day and need to get away. It's always good to remember that music isn't only sound, but can be words too. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of sick guitar solos, or a nasty sounding set of drums, but what really catches my attention in songs are the lyrics. Without the lyrics, a song isn't a song; without lyrics a song just turns into a worldless story. Who wants to listen to a story with no words? So what i challenge you to do is write your own lyrics. Write about anything, perhaps a life experience, or even something that may have upsetted you the day you decided to write these lyrics. I write all the time, so if you'd like to see some of my pieces of work I'd be more than delighted to share them with you and try to help you get started on your own work.

Type of music I listen to when I'm mad or upset: Metal and Screamo music

Jon Pruett:Acoustic and Unsigned

Yesterday while sitting at home on my computer, a friend IMed me about a new musician named Jon Pruett. After watching some of his videos on http://www.youtube.com/, i started to like what i was hearing. However, I do have to admit that he makes a wierd face when he sings. Funny face or not, the guy can still sing and play guitar like there's no tomorrow. His voice is almost a mix between the lead singer from Breaking Benjamins and the lead singer from Staind. Matter of fact, Pruett does a cover of So Cold(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMLPsyq5t7o) and comes close to simulating the voice of Breaking Benjamins' lead singer. If you love acoustic music, I guarentee that you will like the sound of this guy. Please keep in mind that one or two of his songs might be semi-inappropriate(Freak), so be sure to get consent to listen to the songs. Please check him out and feel free to tell me what you think of him.

Music on the Net

Lookin for some new jams, new bands, or a new sound?
